What’s New in This Update
Welcome to FoCal 2.9 MR1 (Beta 1). This is our first maintenance release for FoCal 2.9, containing mostly bug fixes and a few internal improvements.
This version is released as a beta as we wanted to make it available to a wider audience. We have some further testing to do on this version before releasing the final 2.9 MR1 General Availability release.
Version Details
Component | Version | Type |

FoCal – Windows & Mac | 2.9.8.6136 | Beta |
General “headline” features since the last release are shown below, with more details available in the changelog.
What's New
This version is released to fix issues that either missed the cut for the release of FoCal 2.9, or issues raised by users since FoCal 2.9 was released.
It should offer faster, more stable, more accurate testing.
Lens Database Updates
The lens database has been updated to include as many reported lens mismatches as possible. There are some lenses that cannot be resolved with the information reported from the camera, so we will be offering selection from a choice of possible lenses in a future release.
We will also be offering a downloadable update to the lens database in a future version, so we can fix any lens name issues without having to release new version of FoCal.
Thank you very much to everyone who’s reported incorrect lens names!
Friendly Names
Within FoCal, names of things like the release version and the version of Windows/Mac will be shown in a more friendly way. For instance, rather than seeing “2.9.8.6136” as the version, you’ll see “2.9 MR1 Beta 1”.
Bug Fixes
We’ve fixed some control issues on both Nikon and Canon cameras, improved camera and lens name matching, fixed a crash when clicking points in the Dust Analysis test, made quite a few minor user interface changes to tidy things up and fixed most issues raised by users through the ticket system.
If you’re feeling geeky, there’s more details in the changelog.
What’s Next?
This version is a beta, but it’s very close to our final release. We have two more things to investigate which we’d like to get into the General Availability release, and we’d also really appreciate feedback on this release as there are a few underlying changes which should improve camera operation but we’d like to catch any potential issues before pushing this out as a stable release.
Feedback for the beta version is in the usual place – if you head to the Settings tab and hit the Feedback button your comments will be directed to the right place.
